In the 1890s, in New York City, Jewish immigrant Jake (Steven Keats) has seamlessly assimilated into the American community. However, his tranquil existence is disrupted when his wife from back home (Carol Kane) arrives on his doorstep, in a story vividly recreated on a shoestring budget. Directed by Joan Micklin Silver, this loving and funny debut feature, shot sumptuously in black and white, became an unexpected hit and the rare independent American film to garner an Oscar® nomination for Kane's heartbreaking, yet ultimately empowering performance.

Cohen Film Collection is proud to present a gorgeous new 4K restoration of this American classic, accompanied by a host of special features. These include two new interviews with director Joan Micklin Silver, conducted by Shonni Enelow, as well as an archival audio commentary track with Silver and producer Raphael Silver. Additionally, the collection features archival interviews with key cast and crew members, the original opening title sequence, and outtakes with audio commentary by Daniel Kremer, the author of an upcoming book about Joan Micklin Silver. Finally, a restoration trailer is also included, providing a glimpse into the meticulous process of bringing this iconic film back to life.
